Happy Makara Sankranthi / Pongal Nalvazhthukkal!!!

Today morning saw me decked in a “elakka tholi” color silk saree busy in the kitchen making pongal, payasam and ezhukari kootu on the occasion of Makar Sankranthi or Pongal as we call it. It also happens to be my dearest sis’s Birthday so K and I called her bright and early to wish and ended up chatting and cooking all morning.

Something about being up early and bright on festival days makes me happy. The very process of lighting the lamps, making festival specific foods makes me pause and wonder on the years past. The joy I experienced as a kid revisits me and I am all smiles.

Happy Pongal/Makara Sankranthi to all of you!!!
